With the central government’s roll out of the Coronavirus vaccine and relaxation of social distancing guidelines, the much-awaited Jaipur polo season will begin from Monday at the Rajasthan Polo Club here. The 61st cavalry ground will be the second venue of the season besides RPC.
The highlight of the season will be a 16-goal Jaipur Open tournament for the Sawai Bhawani Singh Jaipur Cup from February 15-21. This is for the first time since the 2001 India Open Championship that a 16-goal tournament will be played in Jaipur. The 14-goal Sirmour Cup was the highest handicap event till now and will be played from Feb. 8-14 this time.
The first tournament of the season will be Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Gold Vase (10 goal) from February 1-7. The Kota Cup (6 goal) will be held from February 8-21. The Rajmata Gayatri Devi Memorial Cup (10 goals) will be played from February 22-28.
The season will also witness a repeat of the ladies’ polo match — known as Princess Diya Kumari Foundation Ladies’ Polo — like last year on February 27 to encourage women to take up horse polo.
